The Bahamas - A Top Destination among Billfish Anglers

An experienced Nassau, Bahamas-based business leader, Lester Turnquest has served as managing director of the Green Bay Group, Ltd., since 2006. In his free time, Lester Turnquest enjoys fishing in Nassau and other areas throughout the Bahamas.

Home to a variety of fish species, the Bahamas offers great fishing opportunities for all types of anglers. In addition to sizable schools of bonefish, the waters surrounding the Bahamas are full of large game fish like tuna, wahoo, and marlin. Several marlins exceeding 1,000 pounds have been caught near the islands over the years, and the area is now one of the world’s top destinations among those pursuing trophy billfish.

Anglers who would like to test their skills against those of fellow anglers can participate in the Bahamas Billfish Championship, an annual tournament series that has been held every year since 1973. Today, fishermen and fisherwomen from around the world travel to the Bahamas to take part in the event, which runs from April to June each year. Of course, fishing just for fun is also popular in the area, and places like Treasure Cay, Green Turtle Cay, and Marsh Harbour offer prime fishing grounds for both casual and serious billfish anglers.
