Bahamas Red Cross Sponsors Annual Family-Friendly Fair

Since 2006, Lester Turnquest has worked as managing director of Green Bay Group, Ltd., a financial services company located in Nassau in the Bahamas. A resident of Nassau, Lester Turnquest supports several local endeavors, one of which is the Bahamas Red Cross Society.

As a humanitarian organization, the Bahamas Red Cross Society strives to improve the lives of those living in the community. It responds to natural disasters, provides for human needs within the country, and alleviates human suffering. This chapter began in 1939 and became its own entity in 1976 when it became the 123rd member of the International Red Cross.

One of the ways the chapter reaches out to those in the community is through its Red Cross Fair, with the 2016 event occurring on April 30 at the Government House Grounds. The family-friendly fair featured musical performances and numerous activities for children, including face painting, the bounce castle, and pony rides. Dozens of vendors gathered offering a variety of food options, such as corndogs, pizza, wings, popcorn, hamburgers, and the Caribbean classic conch salad. Attendees also had an opportunity to get up close to the animals at the petting zoo.
